Choose your product based on the level of shine control and protection you need.
Matte Look™—Lightweight, everyday anti-shine scalp cream with daily hydration.
Shine Block™—Maximum shine control for very shiny or oily scalps, events, photography, and situations where stronger, longer-lasting matte performance is needed.
Sol Matte™—Tinted mineral SPF 40 sun protection for the scalp and face with a natural matte finish.
Every day. Maximum. Sun. Three products designed for three different scalp needs.
Like all mineral sunscreens, Sol Matte may initially leave some degree of visible cast when first applied.
Sol Matte was specifically developed to help minimize one of the common cosmetic drawbacks of mineral sunscreen—the visible white cast. Its subtle tint helps the zinc oxide formula blend more naturally into the appearance of the skin.
When properly massaged into the skin, the initial cast is designed to diminish as the product is absorbed and blended, leaving behind a natural-looking matte finish rather than the greasy-looking shine commonly associated with sunscreen.
As with any tinted mineral product, the final appearance can vary depending on skin tone and the amount applied.
Each product was developed to perform a different job.
Matte Look™ is our lightweight daily anti-shine cream. It combines everyday shine control with comfortable hydration and can be used on the scalp + face.
Shine Block™ is our strongest dedicated anti-shine scalp product, designed for more intensive and longer-lasting shine control.
Sol Matte™ combines tinted mineral SPF 40 sun protection with a natural matte finish for exposed scalp + facial skin.
They aren't three versions of the same product. Each was purpose-built for a specific scalp need.
The products are designed to complement different needs, but you don't necessarily need to use all three at the same time.
Matte Look is designed for lightweight everyday shine control and hydration.
Shine Block is used when stronger anti-shine performance is needed.
Shine Block is used when stronger anti-shine performance is needed.
Sol Matte is your mineral sun protection option when your scalp or face will be exposed to the sun.
Choose the product—or combination of products—that best suits your scalp, environment, and level of shine control.
Yes. Rob James FX was developed specifically around the needs of exposed scalp skin, particularly bald heads, shaved heads, and Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP).
Founder Rob James has spent more than 10 years working professionally with shaved scalps through SMP and has completed more than 3,000 procedures.
The product range was developed from problems repeatedly seen in real-world scalp work—particularly unwanted scalp shine.
Yes. Rob James FX products were developed with shaved and SMP scalps specifically in mind.
Scalp shine can make SMP appear more noticeable under bright or overhead lighting because light reflects from the skin's surface. Matte Look and Shine Block are designed to help reduce unwanted scalp shine and create a more natural-looking matte finish.
Do not apply cosmetic or skincare products to freshly treated SMP until your artist's recommended healing period has passed.
A shaved scalp can appear particularly shiny because light reflects from the smooth surface of the skin. Natural oils, sweat, heavy moisturizers, and some sunscreens can make that reflection even more noticeable.
Rob James FX anti-shine products are designed specifically to help reduce this unwanted surface shine while maintaining a natural-looking finish.
Think of them as two levels of shine control.
Matte Look™ = Everyday Shine Control. Lightweight, fast-absorbing, and designed for daily use with hydration built in.
Shine Block™ = Maximum Shine Control. A stronger, dedicated anti-shine scalp formula for very shiny or oily scalps and situations where maximum matte performance is the priority.
If you want lightweight daily control, choose Matte Look. If controlling shine is your absolute priority, choose Shine Block.
We know you care about what you put on your scalp. So do we.
Sol Matte was deliberately developed as a mineral-based alternative to conventional organic (“chemical”) sunscreen filters, using zinc oxide mineral sun protection.
But choosing mineral protection presented another challenge: mineral sunscreens can leave a noticeable white cast, particularly on exposed or shaved scalps.
So we developed Sol Matte with a subtle tint to help minimize visible cast, combined with a natural matte finish to help control unwanted scalp shine.
Mineral protection. Minimal-looking cast. Natural matte finish.
Sun protection without the shine.

No. Matte Look wasn't created by simply repackaging a conventional facial moisturizer.
It was developed specifically as a lightweight anti-shine cream for exposed scalps, combining everyday shine control with comfortable hydration.
The goal is simple: moisturized skin without the heavy, greasy-looking finish commonly associated with traditional moisturizers.
Yes. Matte Look was developed for scalp and face and can be particularly useful on areas prone to unwanted shine, including the forehead.
Apply a small amount to clean, dry skin and allow it to absorb.
No. Rob James FX was created after years of working professionally with shaved and SMP scalps. Our products have been developed and tested specifically around the needs of exposed scalp skin rather than simply selecting existing products and putting the Rob James FX name on them.
Products that didn't meet our standards weren't released.
If it carries the Rob James FX name, it has to earn it.
